Beirut is preparing to don the festive and joyful attire, defying all the crises plaguing the nation and the sorrowful events that marked its past years, proving that life is deserving of its vibrancy. This year, our capital aims to be the primary destination for Christmas and New Year celebrations for citizens, expatriates, and tourists in Lebanon. So, what is being prepared behind the scenes?
MTV contacted Beirut Governor Judge Marwan Abboud, who confirmed that "work is in full swing for the holiday season, and citizens and visitors will be greeted with a large number of Christmas activities at various locations in the capital, such as Martyrs' Square and the streets of Downtown Beirut. There will be unique decorations and lights, even more beautiful than last year, in addition to a giant tree welcoming visitors to the capital." He noted that "popular Christmas markets will play a significant role in attracting people of all ages, especially the less fortunate, so they can experience the joy of the holiday."
Abboud revealed that "solar-powered streetlights will contribute to illuminating the capital, and the reopening of hotels in the city is a positive factor for attracting tourists and expatriates in the coming two months," promising "a special and different atmosphere this year in terms of organization and the density of activities," while inviting "everyone to visit the capital, the heart of Lebanon, which will pulse with joy during the holiday."
In Ashrafieh, preparations are also underway with the Lebanon Of Tomorrow Association for a festive holiday season filled with Christmas activities. In this context, the association's president, Tarek Karam, stated via MTV that "Sassine Square is also preparing for the holidays by setting up a giant tree and a unique nativity scene, in addition to the Marché De Noël, which will allow several small traders to showcase their products for free at more than 30 stalls, along with a designated dining area." He revealed that there are plans for various Christmas and entertainment activities, including a recital by artist Jumana Mdur.
Karam concluded by stating that the celebrations and Christmas atmosphere in Sassine Square will extend from December 7 to January 6, also hinting that "World Cup" themes will be present in the Christmas market, urging everyone to visit Ashrafieh because what is being prepared is significant and will bring joy to the hearts of both adults and children.
