The United States imposed sanctions today, Wednesday, on a network it claims aids in the purchase of essential components for the Iranian drone program and accused Tehran of supplying Russia with drones to support Moscow's attack on Ukraine. The Treasury Department stated in a release that "the network facilitated shipments and financial transactions to support the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps' procurement of a key component used in the production of Iranian Shahed-136 drones." This action is the latest in a series of sanctions against Iran in recent times. The department noted that the latest measure targets entities and individuals in Iran, China, Turkey, and the UAE. Among the repercussions of the sanctions is the freezing of all assets of the targeted parties that fall under U.S. jurisdiction and notifying the Treasury Department. Brian Nelson, a Treasury official, stated in a release that "Iranian-made drones remain a key tool for Russia in its attacks on Ukraine, including those that terrorize Ukrainian citizens and strike critical infrastructure."
