WhatsApp Denies Report on Advertising via the App

The CEO of WhatsApp denied a Financial Times report today, Friday, which stated that the messaging platform owned by Meta is considering placing advertisements in its efforts to increase revenue. WhatsApp's head, Will Cathcart, confirmed in a post on the platform X that "the Financial Times report is incorrect. We are not doing this." He added, "Also it looks like you misspelled Brian's name..."

The newspaper also reported that Meta is considering whether to charge a subscription fee for using the app without advertisements, noting that many within the company opposed this move. The report mentioned that teams at Meta are exploring the possibility of displaying ads in chat lists with contacts on the WhatsApp chat screen, but no final decisions have been made, according to knowledgeable sources.
