Lithuanian swimmer Ruta Meilutyte broke the world record in the 50-meter breaststroke today, Sunday, with a time of 29.16 seconds, winning the gold medal at the World Swimming Championships. Meilutyte surpassed the previous record of 29.30 seconds, which she shared with Italian swimmer Benedetta Pilato. American Lilly King finished in second place, 0.78 seconds behind Meilutyte, while Pilato took third place.
