Algeria and Tunisia Struggle to Contain Raging Fires

Algerian authorities stated today, Tuesday, that they are "struggling to contain the remaining destructive forest fires, in a blaze that has led to the death of at least 34 people." They noted that they have "managed to extinguish 80 percent of the fires so far." The Algerian authorities have deployed more than 8,000 firefighters in an effort to control the flames. In Tunisia, temperatures reached 49 degrees Celsius in some cities this week. The Tunisian civil protection units, supported by forest guards and the air force, are trying to extinguish fires in several areas of Tabarka in the northwestern part of the country, near Algeria.
