Taiwan's Ministry of Transportation revealed today, Wednesday, that after its protests, China has reduced air restrictions north of Taiwan that were initially intended to last three days to less than half an hour on Sunday morning. Reuters had reported that China planned to impose a no-fly zone north of Taiwan from April 16 to 18. The Taiwanese defense ministry had previously stated that "Chinese activities could include space activities such as satellite launches."
The no-fly zone is located within the air defense identification zone about 85 nautical miles north of Taiwan, according to the Taiwanese defense ministry. Officials outside China told Reuters that "the restrictions will disrupt the northern flight information area of Taiwan." This comes as China concludes military exercises that lasted several days around Taiwan in response to a recent meeting between Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen and U.S. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy in California, which angered Beijing.
