Fighting intensified today, Sunday, in the city of Nyala, west of Sudan, and in other areas of South Darfur State, threatening to engulf the region in the flames of the war that has been raging in Sudan for months. Witnesses told Reuters that "the latest wave of clashes has lasted three days, during which the army and Rapid Support Forces fired artillery shells at residential neighborhoods, causing damage to electricity, water, and communication networks." They added, "Fighting erupted in the past days in the Kabbam area, about 100 kilometers west of Nyala, resulting in the deaths of dozens of people." The conflict has led to daily battles in the streets of the capital Khartoum and renewed ethnic attacks in West Darfur State, displacing more than four million people within Sudan and across its borders to Chad, Egypt, South Sudan, and other countries.
