Lebanese Forces party leader Samir Geagea confirmed that the distance to elect a president for the republic is still far, stating: "Hezbollah and its allies have the equation of either Sleiman Frangieh or no president, so the distance for electing a president remains long." Geagea added in an interview with "Al-Jadeed": "We had a constitutional deadline, but they manipulated the constitution and the law. Today, we will approach it based on what they have done to the constitution; humanity is one thing and deceit is another." He pointed out that France currently supports Hezbollah's candidate to obtain an economic interests deal between them, which starts with oil and gas, and includes public facilities and ports in Tripoli and Beirut and between them. He mentioned that the French ambassador did not offer him any deal, saying: "All she mentioned is that a president should be elected, and we see that in Frangieh. I told her that it is better not to elect at the moment, otherwise we will prolong the crisis."
