A police source stated that "security forces in Cyprus arrested five young men from Israel for questioning following a report from a 20-year-old British woman claiming she was raped." It was mentioned that "the girl, who came to Cyprus for a holiday, reported that she was assaulted at the hotel where she was staying in the tourist town of Ayia Napa on September 3, and filed a report with the police last night (Sunday)." It was added that "a district court issued an order to temporarily detain the Israelis, who are between 19 and 20 years old, for eight days." Last year, a high court in Cyprus acquitted a British woman who had been wrongfully convicted by a lower court of lying about being raped by 12 Israelis in July 2019. The individuals arrested in that case were released and not prosecuted.
