The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated today, Friday, that Saudi Arabia and the United States announced that the conflicting parties in Sudan have agreed to a nationwide ceasefire for 24 hours, starting tomorrow, Saturday, at 6 AM local time.
According to the statement, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United States of America announced that representatives of the Sudanese Armed Forces and Rapid Support Forces have reached a ceasefire agreement across Sudan for 24 hours, effective from 6 AM on June 10, 2023, according to Khartoum time.
Under this agreement, both parties will commit to halting attacks, artillery and aerial bombardments, refrain from using drones, moving and repositioning forces, and providing supplies, as well as refrain from seeking military advantage during the ceasefire period.
The statement warned that if the parties do not comply with this ceasefire, "the mediators will be forced to postpone the Jeddah talks," referring to negotiations aimed at ending the clashes that have been ongoing for nearly two months in Sudan.
The U.S. State Department's African Affairs Office stated, "We have offered both parties numerous opportunities to end this senseless war. We call on both sides to respect the commitment they made today to a 24-hour ceasefire, allowing the Sudanese people to receive essential humanitarian assistance."
