The Executive Council of the Bank Employees' Union in Lebanon stated that "after receiving information from various sources about some banks adopting a new strange practice regarding a significant number of their employees, whereby they are asked not to attend work and to stay at home in exchange for receiving their base salaries without transportation allowances and without adjusting for the collapse of the Lebanese pound (which is currently being compensated in various ways such as financial support in fresh money or through other means in the banks)."
On this basis, the council affirmed in a statement that "this invented practice is unacceptable by all standards. It is enough for bank employees to have suffered and continue to suffer since the beginning of the crisis, facing blows from both customers and management alike, to find themselves in a state of uncertainty with a salary that is unfit for any worker under these pressing exceptional circumstances."
It pointed out that "the dignity of bank employees firmly rejects the acceptance of financial amounts without compensation; we are not beggars for charity. If the intention is to pass time until reaching an unclear collective dismissal, we direct the relevant managements immediately to negotiate with us and their employees regarding the outcome of this measure, stressing that we will not stand idly by against what is being orchestrated in terms of engineering and fabrications."
