U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris described North Korea's exchange of military support with Russia for use in Moscow's war in Ukraine as a "grave mistake." Harris, who is visiting Jakarta, Indonesia, for the ASEAN summit, stated in an interview with CBS News aired on Thursday that Russia's request for help from the isolated North Korea is a sign of desperation, which could increase the isolation of both countries. She added, "I see it as a grave mistake. The idea that they would supply ammunition for this purpose... would be a grave mistake. I also firmly believe it would increase the isolation of Russia and North Korea."
U.S. officials have recently warned that negotiations regarding arms between Russia and North Korea are making active progress, and a report indicated that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un intends to visit Russia this month to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss supplying Moscow with arms for the war. White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan warned Kim on Tuesday that his country would pay a price for supplying Russia with weapons to be used in Ukraine.
