The Chinese Foreign Ministry stated on Wednesday that China welcomes the temporary ceasefire in Gaza and hopes it will help alleviate the humanitarian crisis. The Israeli government and Hamas have agreed to halt fighting for four days to facilitate the release of 50 hostages held in Gaza in exchange for the release of 150 Palestinians imprisoned in Israel and to allow humanitarian aid into the besieged territory.
