A senior American official said that Israel has agreed, at the request of the United States, to open the Kerem Shalom crossing only for the inspection and examination of humanitarian aid delivered to Gaza via the Rafah crossing. Washington has been discussing with the Israelis for weeks the possibility of opening the Kerem Shalom crossing to expedite the inspection process of aid trucks. The American official did not specify a timeframe for when the crossing will be opened.
