Musk Announces New Privacy Feature

Elon Musk has revealed a new feature on X that allows users to keep their liked posts private by simply clicking on "Hide Likes Tab." Musk stated, "You can now hide your likes, but I recommend keeping them open and using bookmarks for interesting posts only." He introduced the "bookmarks" feature, which he considers a "silent like by default," after raising the issue months before his acquisition of Twitter last year. Musk has made several controversial changes, ranging from a complete overhaul of the verification system to reinstating contentious accounts, including Donald Trump's.

In July of this year, Musk implemented the largest recorded change by removing the bird logo and abandoning the name "Twitter" in favor of "X." This move is part of Musk's larger effort to fulfill his long-term ambitions to "do everything" to compete with the Chinese app "WeChat," which combines social media functions with financial services, e-commerce, and more. Users reacted to Musk's announcement about "hiding likes" largely with mockery regarding explicit content that users may not wish to publicly endorse.
