Kenyan Faith Kipyegon broke the women's mile world record at the Monaco Diamond League meeting on Friday. The 29-year-old completed the race in 4 minutes and 7.64 seconds, smashing the previous record set by Dutch athlete Sifan Hassan in 2019, which was 4 minutes and 12.33 seconds, also in Monaco. Kipyegon said, "I have trained well so far and aimed for that. The time, yes, was very good because the race planning was very good. It went smoothly, and it’s amazing to achieve a world record." This is Kipyegon's third world record broken in two months, following her performances in the 1500 meters and 5000 meters events.
