Massive Fire Destroys Forests in Spain

On Saturday, firefighters prevented the spread of a massive fire in Valencia, Spain, which has destroyed over 9,884 acres of forests and forced 1,500 residents to evacuate their homes. This fire is considered one of the largest this year in the country.

The firefighting service confirmed that more than 500 firefighters, supported by 20 aircraft including helicopters, attempted to control the fire near the village of Villanueva de Viver in Valencia. However, they were only able to stop the fire from spreading to other areas.

The regional newspaper Las Provincias reported that the police believe the fire may have been sparked by a spark from a machine used for collecting firewood. Gabriela Bravo, the interior affairs official, noted that emergency services evacuated 8 residential areas. Spain is experiencing a prolonged drought following three years of below-average rainfall.
