The U.S. government intends to pursue a new indictment in the Hunter Biden case before September 29, related to tax evasion and illegal possession of a firearm. Prosecutors stated that the government will seek an indictment from a grand jury ahead of the deadline on the 29th of this month, under the swift trial law. Hunter Biden's lawyers reported in court filings last month that prosecutors had backed out of a guilty plea agreement that would have resolved the charges, increasing the likelihood of a criminal trial as the 2024 presidential elections approach. Under the proposed plea deal, Hunter Biden would have pleaded guilty to not paying taxes on an income of $1.5 million between 2017 and 2018 and entered into a separate deferred prosecution agreement for illegally possessing a firearm while using drugs.
