Call for NATO and International Agencies to Protect Serbs in Kosovo

Serbian Army Chief General Milan Mojsilović urged NATO peacekeeping forces and other international agencies to intensify their efforts to protect the Serbian minority in Kosovo, stating, "The international community is not fulfilling its commitments." Mojsilović's remarks come hours after soldiers in Kosovo held a march in the southern part of the ethnically divided town of Mitrovica, where individuals of Serbian descent are the majority in the north. He said, "Due to our professional cooperation, I informed the KFOR mission commander that we are closely monitoring the events with great concern and that urgent action must be taken to protect those of Serbian origin." He added, "It is clear today that the international community is not meeting its commitments." Mojsilović did not provide further details. Meanwhile, EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell expressed that he is "very disturbed" by the situation in northern Kosovo, pointing to the "illegal arrests" of Serbs in Kosovo and the march of Kosovo security forces "which was followed by strong statements from Serbia."
