Austrian Player Lainer Diagnosed with Blood Cancer

The German Bundesliga club Borussia Mönchengladbach announced on Thursday that their Austrian defender Stefan Lainer will be sidelined for several months due to a diagnosis of blood cancer. The club stated in a release: "Medical examinations revealed that the 30-year-old right-back has lymphoma, which is a type of blood cancer." They added: "The cancer was detected very early and can be treated with medication. There is a good chance for him to regain his health and return to his normal life, including his professional sports career."
