Jamaican athlete Sherika Jackson, silver medalist at the World Championships, achieved the best world record of the season in the 100-meter race, completing the distance in 10.65 seconds, making her the fifth fastest woman in history. Jackson easily secured her second national title in the 100-meter event at the Jamaica Athletics Championships and booked her place in the World Championships in Budapest this summer.
Jackson outperformed her competitors Shashalee Forbes (10.96) and Natasha Morrison (10.98). Elaine Thompson-Herah, the two-time Olympic sprint champion who has struggled with injuries this season, finished fifth with her best time of the season at 11.06 seconds.
Jackson appeared shocked after learning she had become the fifth-fastest runner in history. She told Reuters that she "exceeded expectations and performed brilliantly." Despite her impressive career, Jackson believes she still needs to improve before the Budapest competitions.
