Japan Commits to Strengthening Defense Capabilities

The Japanese Broadcasting Corporation "NHK" reported that "Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida pledged to enhance defense capabilities in response to an increasingly challenging regional security environment." The agency quoted Kishida during a ceremony to review the Self-Defense Forces as saying, "In order to protect our country, we will secure the necessary defense budget and fundamentally strengthen our defense capabilities" amid rising threats from Russia and China.
