Title: Shia: No One Can Lift the Sanctions on Bassil Except American Justice

The numerous attempts by Deputy Gebran Bassil to have the United States lift the sanctions imposed on him during the second half of his uncle "General" Michel Aoun's presidential term have troubled him greatly, not only because they tarnish his reputation, which he ironically considers a badge of honor, as the sanctions are attributed to his ally who supposedly liberated the land from Israeli occupation, or so he publicly claims at least. In this context, exclusive information for "An-Nahar" reveals that the American ambassador to Lebanon, Dorothy Shia, has confirmed that no one in her country can lift the sanctions except the judiciary. Pursuing this path would require hiring a specialized American law firm to build a solid legal case to lift the sanctions, which would be quite costly, and it is believed that Bassil has the means to afford it. The reason is that Bassil's case is more financial than political, despite America's objections to his policies. A few Lebanese individuals, including officials, have previously resorted to American courts to lift travel bans to the United States. Of course, the financial costs in this issue are significant. Qatar might help him secure these funds, though this was not mentioned by the American ambassador or the other participants at the dinner, despite their limited number. This does not imply that Bassil lacks a political file in Washington; however, that is not the motivation for imposing sanctions against him.
