The German Research Centre for Geosciences reported that a 6.9 magnitude earthquake shook the Mindanao region in southern Philippines on Friday. The centre stated that the earthquake occurred off the coast of Mindanao at a depth of ten kilometers. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center indicated that a tsunami is not expected. There have been no reports of injuries. The Philippine seismic monitoring agency noted that the earthquake lasted several seconds and advised residents to exercise caution in anticipation of aftershocks and damage. The agency added that the earthquake caused significant damage in the regions of Sarangani and Cotabato in southern Philippines.
