The mayor of a municipality and two military sources in Cameroon reported to Reuters today, Tuesday, that unidentified attackers killed two customs officers, a police officer, and a civilian in an attack on a security post in the northern part of the country. The attack occurred last night at the entrance of the town of Mora, located in the far north of Cameroon, about 30 kilometers from the Nigerian border.
One of the military sources accused the Islamist militant group Boko Haram, which has been carrying out violence in the region, of being behind the attack. Additionally, the source stated that one soldier and two Boko Haram members were killed in a separate attack that took place last night on a military post in the town of Ziguagu, located in the far north of the country.
Mora's mayor, Shetima Hamidou, told Reuters, "It is the first time we have witnessed such an attack in our town since 2013." Several suicide attacks occurred in Mora in 2015 and 2016, and Boko Haram members are suspected to have carried them out.
