Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of the United Arab Emirates, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, expressed his pride in the achievement of the "Dubai Metro" reaching two billion passengers since its opening in 2009. In a tweet, he stated: "Today, the number of passengers of the Dubai Metro has reached two billion since its opening on 9-9-2009. It has 129 trains, 53 stations, and more than 600 thousand daily passengers, with a punctuality rate of 99.7%." He added, "The idea of the Dubai Metro was not familiar in the region, its culture was not accepted, and its decision was not agreed upon by most officials, but responsibility required us to make an unconventional and unacceptable decision. We accomplished what we promised and did what we said. Wisdom: In moments of making tough decisions, the worst option is to not make a decision, for it is in these moments that the destinies of nations and communities are shaped."
