Today, Tuesday, Minister of Information Ziad Makari inaugurated the events of "Beirut: Capital of Arab Media 2023," titled "Here Beirut," under the patronage of Prime Minister Najib Mikati, at the Middle East Airlines (MEA) round hall, where the Beirut Document was launched.
Makari called on Arabs for cooperation and openness, stating, "Let this year be a year of media openness among our Arab capitals, a year in which we can showcase our vibrant culture, and let its slogan be ‘culture that unites us, not ignorance that divides us; our past is written, visible, and audible, and our present is meant for communication.'" He emphasized that media should be "purposeful, supporting Arab and human issues, and highlighting peace rather than wars... media that champions humanity, women, children, and youth, and we want media that aspires to a culture of openness and closes the door on isolation."
Makari expressed, "We want the celebration to be a source of relief and hope, a gateway for the Lebanese-Arab waters to return to their natural courses," noting that the declaration of Beirut as the Capital of Arab Media is an occasion "to showcase our Arab identity and cleanse it of its flaws. Therefore, I call on all our Arab brothers to make this year a year of Arab openness among our capitals and to let its slogan be culture that unites us, not ignorance that divides us."
