Marrakech to Host IMF and World Bank Meetings Despite Earthquake

The Governor of Bank Al-Maghrib (Moroccan Central Bank) Abdellatif Jouahri confirmed today, Thursday, that the city of Marrakech will host the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank from October 9 to 15. Jouahri made this statement at a conference gathering representatives from central banks in the Middle East and North Africa, explaining that this event is in preparation for the annual meetings that will be held as planned. Large tent camps can be seen in the area where the Moroccan government intends to host the annual meetings. Morocco was hit by a 6.8 magnitude earthquake, centered in the High Atlas Mountains late last Friday, resulting in the deaths of over 2,900 people, mostly in the area south of Marrakech.
