The Tunisian "Ennahda" Movement announced today, Wednesday, that it has appointed Deputy President Mondher Al-Wanisi to manage its affairs until the reasons for the absence of its President, Rachid Ghannouchi, are resolved. Al-Wanisi is a member of several scientific and research associations in Tunisia and abroad, and he has published more than 80 scientific papers in various scientific journals.
"Ennahda" demanded in a statement the "release of all detainees and vigilance against the dangers of violating the constitution and international treaties by restricting the activities of political parties, civil society organizations, and the freedom of organization and peaceful demonstration." The movement confirmed its commitment to work within the framework of the National Salvation Front in a peaceful civil manner that elevates the value of national unity.
On April 17, Tunisian security forces detained Ghannouchi after raiding his home, and the primary court in Tunis ordered his imprisonment in a case related to "statements attributed to him inciting against the security of the state."
