False Alarms in Barcelona for the Second Day

The Spanish police announced today, Tuesday, that they have reopened the Plaza Catalunya train station in central Barcelona after ordering its evacuation following reports of a "suspicious object" found there. A police spokesperson stated that a security guard heard ticking sounds coming from a trash can and saw wires protruding from it, prompting the station's closure and the deployment of an explosive ordnance disposal team and trained dog unit. The police tweeted, "We are working at the Plaza Catalunya train station in response to a report of a suspicious object. Specialists are conducting checks to ensure the safety of the area."

Yesterday, Monday, the same station was closed around 5 PM local time (3 PM GMT) after being notified that a train headed to the station was carrying a bomb. After officers searched the train, they concluded that the threat was unfounded and allowed services to resume.
