The General Directorate of Internal Security Forces - Public Relations Division announced that "on 31-7-2023, elements of the Deir el-Qamar checkpoint in the Regional Gendarmerie suspected a group of individuals on a white van heading from Baalbek to Beirut. They were: K. K. (born 1963, Lebanese), B. K. (born 1991, unregistered), known to have a criminal record, R. F. (born 1982, Lebanese), Y. K. (born 1974, unregistered), A. M. (born 1987, Syrian), and N. T. (born 1983, Syrian)."
It added in a statement: "Upon searching them, a quantity of cocaine, hashish, and Captagon pills was found in their possession. During the investigation by the Regional Drug Enforcement Office - Zahle in the Judicial Police Unit, the first four admitted that the seized drugs belonged to them for personal use, while A. M. and N. T. denied any connection to the matter. Based on judicial instructions, A. M. and N. T. were released on a bail promise, while the others and the seized items were handed over to the relevant authorities."
