Canadian police are investigating a massive gold theft at Toronto's Pearson International Airport after valuable items estimated to be worth millions of dollars went missing. The police revealed yesterday, Thursday, that "thieves stole gold and valuable items last Monday, worth over 20 million Canadian dollars (14 million US dollars)." Inspector Stephen Duyvestyn of the regional police told the "Toronto Star": "A container was stolen after being unloaded from a plane at a cargo facility. What I can say is that the container contained a high-value shipment, as it held gold and other valuable items." He explained that "the police believe the theft was an isolated and very rare incident, and no arrests have been made so far." It is noted that gold extracted from the country is often kept at Pearson before being flown abroad, and nearly half of Canada's air cargo passes through this airport. This theft is considered one of the largest in Canada's history, including the maple syrup heist in 2011 and 2012, where thieves stole 9,600 barrels of maple syrup valued between 15 and 20 million dollars from a warehouse near Quebec.
