Israel announced today, Tuesday, the readiness of Unit 252 to commence ground operations. So, what about this unit and what distinguishes it? The 252nd Armored Division "Sinai" is a division of the Israeli army under the Southern Regional Command, formed in 1968, and it was the first permanent division in the Israeli army. As of July 2016, it has been commanded by Brigadier General Saar Tzur.
The unit was established in 1968 in an attempt to unify Israeli armored forces in Sinai and actively participated in the War of Attrition. It also played an active role in the "October War." During the 1982 Lebanon War, it operated on the eastern flank of Israeli forces that invaded Lebanon. In the 21st century, the division has been tasked with securing the border with Egypt.
