Taliban Kills Planner of Suicide Attack at Kabul Airport

American officials revealed that "the Taliban killed an armed member of ISIS, who was the mastermind behind the suicide attack at Kabul International Airport in 2021, which resulted in the deaths of 13 American soldiers and dozens of civilians during the U.S. evacuation operations from the country." White House spokesman John Kirby noted in a statement yesterday, Tuesday, that the person killed "was an important figure in the Islamic State Khorasan Province and was directly involved in planning operations such as the Abbey Gate attack." The bombing occurred on August 26, 2021, while U.S. forces were trying to assist American and Afghan citizens in fleeing the country following the Taliban's takeover there. The attack exacerbated the U.S. sense of defeat after a 20-year war.
