U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced an agreement between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces to "implement a nationwide ceasefire, which will start at midnight on April 24th and last for 72 hours." He added that "during this time, the United States urges both sides to implement the ceasefire immediately and fully."
In a statement, the Sudanese Rapid Support Forces announced that they "agreed to a 72-hour ceasefire starting from midnight tonight to facilitate humanitarian efforts." They confirmed their commitment during the declared ceasefire period to a complete cessation of hostilities, warning of "ongoing violations by the other party in failing to adhere to the ceasefire."
Meanwhile, the Sudanese army announced in a statement on its Facebook page today, Tuesday, its approval of a 72-hour ceasefire mediated by the U.S. and Saudi Arabia starting at midnight on April 25th.
