A patrol from the first border regiment of the army apprehended several Syrians at night in the location of Baqia, in the Wadi Khaled area. This occurred following a chase of a suspicious "Rapid" vehicle, which was transporting a number of individuals who had managed to cross illegally from the Syrian side to the Great River area at the Lebanese border town of Al-Awainat. The pursuit continued to the border area of Baqia, where the "Rapid" vehicle veered off its path and fell into an irrigation canal, allowing the driver to escape in an unknown direction. Investigations are ongoing with the detainees to uncover the identity of the driver who transported them and the gang that facilitated their crossing into Lebanese territory. This action is part of a series of strict measures imposed by the army along the entire northern and northeastern land borders with Syria to curb smuggling operations.
