The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates, Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, confirmed the freedom of the family of the late Ghazi Azeddine to either leave the UAE or remain there. This came during a phone call that took place after consultations with the Speaker of the Parliament, Nabih Berri, and the Prime Minister, Najib Mikati, on Saturday. The call, between Foreign Affairs and Emigrants Minister Abdullah Bou Habib and his Emirati counterpart Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, involved discussions about bilateral relations and the situation of the Lebanese community residing in the UAE.
It is worth noting that after a phone call yesterday by the Lebanese ambassador in Abu Dhabi, Fouad Dandan, with the late Ghazi Azeddine's wife and brother, the ambassador received a written message signed by the family stating that the deceased passed away due to a heart attack. The rituals of mourning and burial took place with the family present in the UAE, according to their wishes. Ambassador Dandan will also visit the family soon to offer condolences and check on their needs.
Ghazi Azeddine, aged 55, who had been detained in the UAE since mid-March, died on May 4 while in custody along with two of his brothers, according to the security authorities.
