Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang stated on Wednesday that "it is important to avoid a new Cold War when dealing with conflicts between nations," as world leaders gathered in Indonesia amidst escalating geopolitical disputes across the Indian and Pacific Oceans. Li said, "Countries need to address differences and disputes appropriately. It is currently very important to stand against biases and confrontations between blocs and a new Cold War." In another context, the Japanese Foreign Ministry mentioned that "Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida had a brief conversation with his Chinese counterpart, where Kishida explained Japan's perspective on the release of treated water from the Fukushima nuclear plant into the sea." ASEAN, which warns against the dangers of being drawn into conflicts among great powers, is conducting broader talks with Li and U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris, along with leaders from partner countries including Japan, South Korea, Australia, and India.
