Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, speaking to a crowd in Denmark on Monday, expressed that the promises of delivering American-made F-16 fighter jets to his country have made him confident that Ukraine can end the Russian invasion of its territory. Denmark and the Netherlands announced on Sunday that they would supply Ukraine with F-16 fighter jets, with the first batch of six jets expected to be delivered to Kyiv in the early part of the new year. Washington approved the delivery of the jets prior to Zelensky’s visit to Copenhagen.
Zelensky told thousands gathered in front of the Danish parliament to hear his speech, "We are confident today that Russia will lose this war."
Earlier on the same day, Moscow warned that Denmark and the Netherlands' decision to provide Ukraine with F-16 fighter jets would only escalate the ongoing conflict that has lasted for 18 months. Russian forces occupy nearly one-fifth of Ukrainian territory, and Kyiv is making strong efforts to expel them. Ukrainian military spokesperson Yuri Ihnat stated, "Air superiority is the key to success on the ground."
