Pakistan Buys More Electricity from Iran

The Pakistani Ministry of Finance announced in a statement today, Tuesday, that the country will buy more electricity from Iran. The decision was made through the Economic Coordination Committee headed by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar. Energy-hungry Pakistan has existing agreements to purchase electricity from Tehran to supply its border areas, particularly for Chinese-backed development projects at the Gwadar port. The proposal to buy more electricity from Tehran came a week after Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian's visit to Islamabad. The Ministry of Finance did not provide details regarding the volume or terms of the new purchases.
