British Foreign Secretary James Cleverly affirmed that "Britain continues to support Israel's right to defend itself while urging it to exercise restraint in any military action against the Palestinian Islamic resistance movement 'Hamas' to minimize harm to civilians." He added to the media on Sunday that he raised the issue of the need to reduce civilian casualties to the lowest possible level in discussions with the Israeli government. Cleverly stated to Sky News: "Restraint and discipline, these are the hallmarks of the Israeli Defense Forces that I want to see, and of course we respect Israel's right to defend itself... We say do everything you can to minimize civilian casualties. Do what you can to prevent Hamas from achieving its goal, which is to escalate this conflict into a wider regional war."
