U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen stated on Monday that she "sees no indications that the U.S. economy is in a recession," but warned that the lack of congressional action on legislation to keep the government running could signal an economic slowdown. She told CNBC, "I don't see any signs that the economy is at risk of contracting," noting that "the U.S. labor market remains strong and inflation is declining." She added, "There is absolutely no reason for a shutdown... creating... a situation that could lead to a loss of momentum is a risk we don't need at this stage."
