Fire Cuts Electricity Across Iraq and Investigation Committee Formed

A fire at an electrical station caused a power outage throughout Iraq, as reported by the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity, which stated that efforts are underway to restore power "within the coming hours" amid rising temperatures. According to a statement from the ministry, "The electrical system experienced a total blackout today, Saturday, at 12:40 PM, due to a fire incident at the Al-Bakr secondary conversion station in Basra Governorate."

The statement noted that the fire led to "the disconnection of transmission lines" between central and southern Iraq, as well as "the disconnection of generating units at production stations." Furthermore, the statement indicated that efforts are "rapidly underway to restore the disconnected generating units and transmission lines successively, and the system will return to normal within the coming hours."

The Minister of Electricity has instructed the formation of an urgent investigation committee to determine the causes of the fire that resulted in the power outage in Iraq. Ahmad Mousa, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Electricity, confirmed to "France Presse" that the outage affected "all of Iraq."
