The Role of Vitamin D in Preventing Heart Diseases

Results from a study conducted by researchers at the Australian Institute for Medical Research (QIMR) indicate that the intake of Vitamin D can reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases in individuals over the age of 60. The researchers reported, "Our study showed that consumption of Vitamin D lowers the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases, and its effectiveness increases in patients taking heart medications," according to the journal The BMJ.

The study on the effects of Vitamin D lasted six years and involved 21,000 participants aged 60 to 84. Participants received a monthly dose of Vitamin D or a placebo for five years, followed by a comprehensive examination. This approach enabled the determination of the role vitamins play in preventing heart diseases.

The researchers stated, "We found that only 6 percent of participants who took Vitamin D during the study experienced worsening cardiovascular diseases. In contrast, in the placebo group, this percentage was no less than 19 percent." It is important to note that scientists have previously been unable to prove that taking vitamins, particularly Vitamin D, is beneficial in preventing heart diseases.
