The Egyptian Ministry of Interior's Traffic Portal has put up a number of distinctive car license plates for auction, with one of them reaching a price of 50 million Egyptian pounds (1.6 million US dollars), as reported by local media, which has sparked controversy on social media. According to the Traffic Portal, the license plate being auctioned has so far reached a price of 50 million pounds, with the auction set to end today, Tuesday.
Local media reported that only two individuals have bid on the plate bearing the number "م ي ر 555," which is now considered the most expensive on the "Your Plate" website affiliated with the Ministry of Interior. One follower commented on the ministry's website: "50 million for 3 fives; how many millions would it be if it were 3 sixes?" while others expressed astonishment at the significance of the letters "م ي ر" on the plate.
It is worth noting that the most expensive car license plate sold in Egypt is "أ ه م 1," which was sold for 1 million and 970 thousand pounds, while the second plate, "س ي ف 1," sold for 650 thousand pounds. The plate "د د د 111" was sold for 210 thousand Egyptian pounds.
