The newspaper "Dawn" reported that at least 25 people were killed and 145 others injured on Saturday due to floods caused by heavy monsoon rains in Pakistan. The report noted that "the heavy rains swept through several areas in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in the northwest of the country." Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif expressed his condolences to the victims' families and tasked the National Disaster Management Authority with taking action to assist people in the affected areas. In 2022, the floods caused by monsoon rains were among the most devastating in Pakistan's history, affecting over 33 million people (14% of the country's population) in more than 90 out of 160 regions. The death toll reached 1,719, with economic losses estimated at about 30 billion dollars.
