A patrol from the Lebanese Army successfully forced an Israeli patrol to retreat beyond the Blue Line. The Army Command's Directorate of Guidance stated in a statement that "on March 5, 2023, between 11:55 AM and 12:00 PM, a patrol belonging to the Israeli enemy breached the Blue Line near BP 13 (1) - Aita el-Shaab by approximately one meter. The Lebanese Army intervened and forced the enemy patrol to retreat beyond the Blue Line toward the occupied Palestinian territories." The statement also mentioned that a patrol from the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) was present to verify the breach. The statement confirmed "the continuation of monitoring the breach in coordination with the mentioned force."
UNIFIL's Deputy Head of the Information Office, Candice Ardail, noted that "UNIFIL is aware of the tensions occurring along the Blue Line in the Aita el-Shaab area, where some Israeli maintenance work is taking place." She added: "UNIFIL forces are on-site and are working to reduce tensions." Furthermore, she stated: "We urge all parties and everyone present in the area to maintain calm." She concluded: "Any kind of activity near the Blue Line is highly sensitive, and we continue to call on all parties, in coordination with UNIFIL forces, to avoid actions that lead to unnecessary tension."
