Iraq Calls on the EU for a Clear Stance "Against the Siege on Gaza"

Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Fuad Hussein affirmed Iraq's steadfast position against attempted displacements in the Gaza Strip on Monday, calling on the European Union for "a clear stance against the siege imposed on Gaza and assistance in opening the Rafah crossing to send humanitarian aid to the region." A statement from the Iraqi Foreign Ministry noted that the Deputy Prime Minister met with the European Union Ambassador to Iraq, Thomas Seiler, to discuss bilateral relations between Iraq and the EU, as well as ways to expand economic partnership and cooperation in various fields, alongside significant regional events, particularly those occurring in Palestine. Fuad Hussein emphasized Iraq's firm stance against the attempts at displacement in Gaza, urging the EU and European governments to take "a clear stance against the siege imposed on Gaza and help open the Rafah crossing for humanitarian aid to the area, and to clearly oppose the policy of displacing the people of Gaza to Sinai in Egypt." For his part, Ambassador Thomas Seiler expressed the EU's desire to expand avenues of cooperation with Iraq and thanked the Foreign Ministry for its efforts to enhance relations between the two sides.
