The U.S. military is searching for a missing F-35 jet and has requested “public assistance” in this effort following an incident in which its pilot ejected safely yesterday afternoon. Joint Base Charleston, based in South Carolina, stated on Facebook that the aircraft was an F-35 and belonged to a Marine Corps Air Station. The pilot ejected safely and was transported to a medical facility, but the location of the aircraft remains unknown.
Joint Base Charleston added, “Based on the last known location of the aircraft and in coordination with the Federal Aviation Administration, we are focusing our attention north of Charleston, around Lake Moultrie and Lake Marion.” The base continued, “We are asking the public to cooperate with military and civilian authorities as search efforts continue.” They requested that “anyone with information regarding the aircraft’s location contact the base’s defense operations center.” The base is working with Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort to help locate the missing fighter jet, and emergency teams have been deployed in an attempt to find it.
