Cedric Richmond, a senior advisor to U.S. President Joe Biden, stated on Sunday that the campaign for the 2024 presidential election will not focus on the legal issues facing potential Republican nominee Donald Trump, who has been charged with four criminal counts. Trump, who spent about 20 minutes in Fulton County jail where his mugshot was taken, reiterated that the trial and other charges against him are politically motivated. He told reporters, "What is happening here is a distortion of justice. I have not committed any crime and everyone knows that." Trump leads most polls by about 40 points over his GOP rivals for the nomination to compete against Biden, the Democratic candidate who defeated him in 2020.
